Ārāma Karuṇā Sevena is a monastic dwelling, founded in May 2009 by Venerable bhikkhunī Visuddhi therī. Thanks to the generous support of a dedicated group of practitioners and donors, the construction works began in stages and the ārāma underwent an extensive renovation in 2016 when the main meditation hall was built.
Bhikkhunī emphasizes that the ārāma is open to people of all ages, all religious beliefs, cultures, genders and backgrounds. The ārāma is a meditation and spiritual place to find peace, contentment, wisdom, discipline, loving kindness and compassion.
Throughout the years, the ārāma Karuṇā Sevena has served the community, offering Dhamma classes, meditation seclusions, retreats for beginners, religious ceremonies and chantings, birthday blessings, house blessings, hospital visitations, last rites, memorial services, family retreats, children retreats, and providing one-on-one meditation sessions with an individual guidance of Venerable bhikkhunī Visuddhi therī. In addition to these services, the ārāma hosts several annual cultural events such as: Annual Vesākha Celebration, and Kaṭhina Robe Offering Ceremony. These events welcome in all people, including children.
The Association Karuna Sevena is grateful that the ārāma is outgrowing its humble structure, however, there are challenges that we need to overcome. We have two goals for the coming years: Our first wish is to “make our ārāma debt free.” In 2017, the Association Karuna Sevena with the help of one of our trust members took on a bank loan and purchased a neighboring house called the Viveka (which in the pāli language means “mental detachment”, i.e. the inner detachment from sensuous things). It is used for an accommodation of monastic or lay visitors to the ārāma Karuṇā Sevena. There is 72.000 EUR remaining.
The second wish is to raise funds for the Viveka’s roof repair. There has been very serious roof leakage in the past year. The estimated amount for the repair and building project (we would like to elevate the roof and allow space for several extra rooms for accommodation of visitors) is 40.000 EUR.
We rely on the generosity of those who see the benefit in giving, supporting the monastic life of the Venerable bhikkhunī Visuddhi in Europe, keeping the ārāma open and the Buddha’s teaching alive. We joyfully accept donations of any amount. May all beings be happy and well.
